Shakespeare’s Play for Today

The play was set in the fifties
with pony tails, poodle skirts,
oxford shoes and bobby socks.

The girls were as cute as could be
the boys slightly awkward in tight jeans

the lines were not modernized; words
and rhymes from long ago, making
the phrasing clumsy and the meaning

difficult but that didn’t stop

the teens from memorizing
their lines and entertaining

the audience anyway.
