Moving On

The clothes I wore last summer
are too small for the new year
my shoes, half worn, don’t fit me anymore
it’s time for moving on, moving on
because everything has changed.

Mother looks tiny standing by the door
I can touch the ceiling now
and see my father eye to eye.
Time for moving on, moving on
because everything has changed.

The baby they once knew
is still here in my smile
but I want my independence
time for moving on, moving on
because everything has changed.

I’ve learned to read and multiply,
and think about my world
I'm coming to the conclusion
it's time for moving on, moving on
because everything has changed.

Kids are three inches taller
and many run in packs
so where do I fit in?
Time for moving on, moving on
because everything has changed.

Nothing left to do
but to figure out my plan
time for moving on, moving on
because everything has changed.
