Happily ever after,
the promise of fairy tales
to suffer yet recover
all of life’s potential
with a kiss from a prince
in shining silver.
How crazy is that dream
in light of reality?
Hollywood perpetuates the myth
taking headline news
juxtaposing it against fantasy
to make viewers believe
damsels in distress
can survive their kidnap and torture
to go off and live normal lives.
I suppose it could happen,
for their sake I hope so,
but my experience suggests
there is severe darkness before recovery
however much we like to pretend
that everything will be okay...
and that goodness will be rewarded
and evil punished severely.
