Conversation With My Sister

She used to think she was powerful
if something needed to be done, she could do it
or at least she would try
Some call it vanity, others arrogance,
but she was sure of her powers
no apologies along the way
She was on a mission… called forth, if you will.

Today the appeal is different.
The gravitational tug of the grave
overwhelming at times
the temptation to do what she did
no longer pulls her like it used to.

If the hours ahead are few or many,
the best she can offer today is prayer.
A supplication to an almighty god
to bring blessings to those she loves
and forgiveness for herself for those days
long gone, when she thought she was the one.
