City of Dreams
It rained again today,
clouds along the horizon
creates a suffocating humidity
steam rises from the sidewalks
lights reflect off city streets
prosperity lost in the downturn
dig deep into my pockets
but still come up empty
shuffle past Hollywood and Vine
visitors from every small town
hustle to find a little action
five dollars gets me through the day.
Wrapped in a hoodie
now wet to the skin
my good looks strained,
lines from the stress,
like a bad drawing,
distort my face.
The sparkle
gone from my eyes
but in my mind
the dream festers
... I will be
a Hollywood star.
