Walked into an empty church
where candles flickered beneath
statues of saints, a place to kneel
and pray for intercession.
St. Jude for the hopeless,
St. Anthony for the lost,
donation boxes with locks
to keep visitors from stealing.
How many times
were dimes stolen
or candles snuffed out
and miracles
never delivered?
