April Fools

A knock on the door
no one was there but a pink

post-it note stuck to the wall
“April Fools,” was all it said.

The phone rang inside
and a prerecorded

message warned:  

“The F.B.I. wants 

you to know that

you are in danger of

identity theft unless…”

That call was not a joke

but I get it twice a week

warning me

my identity has already been

stolen and I will be harassed

indefinitely.
