White yellow, orange, then scarlet
filtered through early mist
on the eastern horizon.
If we're in the car headed
west the sun is at our backs
but if we woke at four
already on the road
the sun becomes more
intense as it
rises in the sky
to light our route
through the mountains
to the Arizona deserts.
